Orpheus Heritage 33BD Opus II Preamplifier
A preamplifier has to perform a few simple-sounding tasks that are deceptively difficult: it should allow user-selection of inputs, provide control of how loud the music is played, be dead quiet, and it should provide robust drive to a power amplifier. The Heritage Preamplifier performs those tasks with ease and with the finesse expected from any Orpheus product.
Inputs are easily selected either directly at the unit, or by remote control, with input and volume level displayed on a front panel display. The potentiometer/volume control allows precise volume adjustments in 0.5 dB increments, over a wide range, without distorting the signal, thanks to its unique CRQ/L (Constant Resistive Quadropoles/Logarithmic) design.
Signal to noise ratio is an impressive -126 dB, minimum—dead quiet, indeed. Finally, the Preamplifier’s output stage with 2000 volts per microsecond slew rate ensures that it will pair well with even the lowest impedance amplifiers.
The Preamplifier also utilizes an external power supply similar to that of the SACD player, giving it the same massive architectural presence—and of course it provides the same benefits in performance. The technology is impressive, but the resulting sound quality is even more impressive.
